Crochet Club

Instructor:

Class Overview

I will lead a lesson each week where I introduce a stitch, project, or other skill. This class is meant to have a club style feel similar to a quilting club in that the older members are meant to mentor younger members and give them something to aspire to. If you find joy spreading a love for crochet and want to help less experienced students learn, you are welcome and NEEDED in order to make this club happen. Handicrafts like crochet, knitting, and sewing are a dying craft and it is so important that those who know these handicrafts spread the knowledge to keep these skills alive! So beginners and experienced students are welcome! Consider it a place where you can learn from each other, work on projects, share progress you are excited about, encourage each other, and pass on what you have learned!

  • Chain Stitch
  • Single Crochet – Swatch – Beginner crocketers will work a swatch until they can maintain consistent and loose tension.
  • Potholder
  • Finishing (Sewing in Ends)
  • Double Crochet
  • Slip Stitch
  • Scarf
  • Hat
  • Half Double Crochet
  • Begin Lap Blanket to finish over summer.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

  • Chrochet hooks in multiple sizes. I like these, but others are acceptable.
  • 8 mm Crochet hook. I like this one.
  • Several Skeens/cakes of Worsted weight yarn in any solid colors. Avoid heavily textured yard. A slightly thicker yarn is ideal for beginners as it is easier to hold on to. I recommend for beginners to at least start with solid colors to make it easy to see inconsistencies, crochet pattern, and eventually consistency. For later projects or more advanced crocheters multicolor yarn is fine.
  • More yarn may be needed throughout the semester, depending on how many projects we are able to get to.Here is a breakdown of potential yarn needs.
    • Weeks 1 & 2: 1 Skein or cake of yarn (I would use inexpensive worsted weight yarn for these practice swatch weeks)
    • Weeks 3-4 Washcloth/Potholder: 1 small skein
    • Weeks 5-7 Practicing stitches and beginning scarf project: 2 Skeins or 2 cakes worsted weight yarn, preferrable slightly thicker, but not textured.
    • Weeks 8-9 Hat: 1-2 Skeins/ cakes worsted weight.
    • Weeks 10-11: 3-4 cakes or skeins of worsted weight yarn for blanket. Could be more depending on the size of the blanket the student intends to crochet. It could be as small as a lap blanket, which is the minimum we will shoot for or as big as a throw. This will be finished in their own time after co-op ends as desired by the student. All of the stitches and finishing techniques will be taught along with videos for them to watch as they finish at home.
