Class Overview

First Aid & Emergency Preparedness Course

Audience: Middle & High School Students (Grades 6–12, as long as able to follow instructions promptly and not be disruptive)
Length: 12 class sessions, 25 minutes each
Course Goal: Students will demonstrate basic first aid knowledge and safely perform essential first aid skills during a practical assessment in the final class.

***NEXT SEMESTER will be the AHA HEARTSAVER FIRST AID CPR AED CERTIFICATION COURSE (fee will be the cost of the card)***


Course Objectives

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Recognize emergency situations.
  • Assess scene safety.
  • Activate Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
  • Perform basic first aid for common injuries.
  • Demonstrate CPR hands only compressions and AED awareness
  • Assist a conscious choking victim (infant, child, and adult)
  • Treat bleeding, burns, fractures, and other common emergencies.
  • Work effectively as part of an emergency response team.
