Class Overview

Establishing a morning routine of school activities including calendar, memorization of the Childs Prayer by Margaret Betham-Edwards, singing the hymn “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” by Samuel Francis Smith, and story time. We will be following the Young Children’s Encyclopedia for Story time and learning spelling, music, geography, history, science, math, poetry, art, crafts, short video clips, interactive hands on activities intermittently.

Interactive hands on activities include: crafts, building Legos, measuring liquids/foods/each other, hopscotch, show and tell*, shopping/buying with money, playing instruments, experiencing culture cuisine, and *writing/mailing a letter based on the word/story each week.

Show and tell** We will have a show and tell on Mask the week of Halloween where students are encouraged to bring a mask from home or even an Indian hair dress. If they do not have one, no worries. We will make a craft paper bag mask.

Show and tell** on Museums in November. Encouraging students to bring any ancient artifacts, old letters, antiques (if allowed) or art work/things they think that would be worthy to be in a museum to show and tell about.

If your child is not able to write alphabetical letters, I do not think they would enjoy this class as much. We will be writing a simple letter/card to send, but they will be encouraged to do the writing portion. Also, we do have occasional worksheets to write words/learn to spell and that go along with the stories/people/places we are learning.

Words/stories we will cover include: Measurement, Mexico, Money, Mongoose, Moon, Moscow, Mail, Mask, Mountains, Mozart, Museums, and Music.
