Class Overview
We live so close to a huge city which is rooted deep in so much history–let’s dive in and learn about it! In this St. Louis history class, we will use a colorful, photo-filled workbook written by a local author to learn about the people, places, and events that shaped our area. Using word puzzles, mazes, and all sorts of fun facts, we will learn about an array of historical events including (but not limited to) Lewis and Clark, the world’s tallest man, Mark Twain, the 1904 World’s Fair, Charles Lindbergh, and the Gateway Arch. Some weeks we will have hands-on activities to do, videos, read-aloud books, studying objects pertaining to our studies (such as animal furs and replica clothing Lewis and Clark would have worn), and other surprises! Students will even be challenged to go out and physically find these places as depicted in the workbook if they would like to.
A field trip to the Missouri History Museum in St. Louis to see the new 1904 World’s Fair exhibit (among other exhibits) will take place in the spring.
