Class Overview

This class will focus on deepening understanding of the chemistry principles that the students are studying in their homeschool chemistry courses. Students enrolling in this class should be taking chemistry concurrently or should have already completed a high school chemistry course. We will adapt the topics to best meet the needs of the students who enroll. I have a variety of group inquiry learning activities to choose from. Topics could include: Classification of Matter, Isotopes, Ions, Average Atomic Mass, Coulombic Attraction, Electron Energy and Light, Electron Configuration, Cracking the Periodic Table Code, Periodic Trends, Naming Ionic Compounds, Polyatomic Ions, Naming Molecular Compounds, Naming Acids, Molecular Geometry, Types of Chemical Reactions, Relative Mass and the Mole, Mole Ratios, Limiting and Excess Reactants, Gas Variables, Saturated and Unsaturated Solutions, Solubility, Molarity, Equilibrium, Acids & Bases, Strong vs. Weak Acids, Calculating pH, Oxidation & Reduction, The Activity Series, and Batteries. We will choose the 11 most desired topics and focus on one per week.
