First Aid & Emergency Preparedness Course
Audience: Middle & High School Students (Grades 6–12, as long as able to follow instructions promptly and not be disruptive)
Length: 12 class sessions, 25 minutes each
Course Goal: Students will demonstrate basic first aid knowledge and safely perform essential first aid skills during a practical assessment in the final class.
***NEXT SEMESTER will be the AHA HEARTSAVER FIRST AID CPR AED CERTIFICATION COURSE (fee will be the cost of the card)***
Course Objectives
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Recognize emergency situations.
- Assess scene safety.
- Activate Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
- Perform basic first aid for common injuries.
- Demonstrate CPR hands only compressions and AED awareness
- Assist a conscious choking victim (infant, child, and adult)
- Treat bleeding, burns, fractures, and other common emergencies.
- Work effectively as part of an emergency response team.
This supervised free-play class provides a fun, relaxed environment to play, create, and build friendships before lunch. Children will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of hands-on activities such as coloring, reading books, Play-Doh, building with blocks, puzzles, imaginative play, and educational toys. Children are also welcome to bring a favorite toy, book, or quiet activity from home to enjoy and share with friends.
This is not a structured academic class, but a supervised time designed to encourage creativity, cooperation, and social interaction in a safe and welcoming setting.
Please note: To help create a positive environment for everyone, toys brought from home should be appropriate for sharing and should not include electronics, weapons, or items with small pieces that could pose a choking hazard.
Taught by certified K-12 Spanish teacher Ronda Bemenderfer, students will complete a chapter book in Spanish. This book will be different from last semester so new vocabulary will be acquired. However, it is open and achievable to all students. Students will sing, read, and play games completely in the target language. Ronda Bemenderfer teaches using comprehensible input as learned through her time as a public school teacher for 5 years. This allows for all students to achieve proficiency in all ACTFL standards. Class fee is for the rights to the chapter book used in class.
Let’s dive into a Nancy Drew mystery this semester! We will read together through Nancy Drew book #5 “The Secret of Shadow Ranch” and enjoy solving a western mystery with Nancy and her friends, Bess and George.
This class is geared toward the 4-6’th grade range, but older and younger are welcome as well. I will have an extra copy of the book to share with whoever is taking a turn reading during class; students do not have to buy/bring their own copy unless they want to. Pencils and paper will be provided for those who wish to draw illustrations while they listen to the story.
For grades 1-3. The focus will be working on is basic skills, teamwork, and playing games. Through a variety of sports the goal is to learn basic skills for some and continue to improve on those who are more advanced.
This is a continuation of last semester’s IEW course. We will continue working through the course workbook, writing, presenting, working on grammar and vocabulary. At the end of the course, I will have the students do a research report on a historical figure. They will be invited to dress up and present at the end of the year presentations.
This is an opportunity for our TEENS who love to make music to just get together, hang out and make some music.

Short Term Missions (STM) is a very practical class led by long term missionary/missiologist, Dr. Mat Kountz, to help learn and understand how to be a blessing to the mission fields we serve on short term mission trips. We will discuss topics such as:

- STM and the Biblical Definition of Missionaries
- Considering “What’s Your Role?”
- STM and Cultural Awareness
- Relationships and Cross-Cultural Credibility
- Translation and Language Issues in Missions

While this class is listed for Jr./Sr. High, we would love any adults/parents interested in this topic to join us as well!
*If there is interest in doing a short term mission trip to Ecuador over winter or summer break we would be happy to lead a team in that.
In this class we will learn about various historical figures and character qualities they emulated in their lives. As time allows we will explore other details about the lives of the men and women we learn about as well as work on activity sheets that will showcase each particular figure we explore.
