P.E. (Ages 6-9)

The kids will play some sports, various tag games, relay races and other games and activities.

Wild World of Art: Geography & World Cultures

In this class, we will explore different countries and cultures across the globe, learning about celebrations, sampling various cuisines (do let me know if your student has allergies), and painting/drawing famous landmarks, landscapes, and animals from these regions using a variety of mediums. We will also be diving into cartography by creating artistic maps of each region. This semester we will learn about the countries and cultures of Europe, Africa, and Central America.

I plan to continue this course in the Spring and we will cover South America, Asia, and North America.

History Book Read: Sergeant York And The Great War

Students will be reading thru a life story and war diary of Alvin C. York .  We will watch a film the last few weeks of class, have discussion thru out each class period and additional historical information during that time of WW1.   This class is for both girls and boys with interest in this time period.  I will plan on purchasing books for class which will be part of the class fee.

Biology

This Biology class will primarily be focused on labs. Supplements for learning will also be provided. It is appropriate for both current & past Biology students. If your child is a current Biology student, they should also be reading a Biology textbook to ensure a thorough understanding of the labs.

I will generally follow labs out of the Berean Builders Biology course. It will provide 1 Honors credit for Biology.

This class is intended to be a full year. The cost is higher for first semester due to purchase of a dissection kit and microscope slide kit that we will be using for the full year.  Cost should be very minimal second semester. We will be working in paired groups for labs. I should have 4 microscopes available.

Required: Students should bring a notebook to journal for labs.

Intermediate Band

The intermediate class builds off of the skills we have acquired in our beginning class. Students will continue working with their instrument and furthering their reading ability.  Music theory will be incorporated in a more in depth way. Also, fun songs! All previous students are encouraged to be in this group.

Christian Teen Conversations (Highschool)

My hope with this class is to get the students engaged in healthy, uplifting, thought provoking, faith filled discussions. One of the main things we will be using is a Christian teen conversation deck of cards to guide us into topics such as, their faith journey, the world around us, personal beliefs and bible truths. I’d also like to incorporate prayer and a devotional. Students are encouraged to bring a bible and a notebook to each class.

PE 6-9

Ages 6-9 but flexible in regards to attention span and cooperation.

The kids will play some sports, various tag games, obstacle courses, relay races and other fun PE activities.

Logic (High School) and Apologetics (Dual Enrollment with Spurgeon College)

Logic (High School)
and Apologetics (Dual Enrollment with Spurgeon College)
Second Semester – Spring 2025
Instructor: Dr. Mat Kountz

This class will be an applicable introduction to logic. The class will learn what logic is from Dr. Poythress’s book, and then learn to apply it using the poetic logic of two of histories best reasoners.
This course lasts a full school year and gives one high-school credit. I am working with Spurgeon College in KC and should be able to offer 3 college credits, tuition free, in Apologetics to interested students (confirmation coming soon). For the non-college credit seeking students, the three texts of the “required reading” section will need to be read, and each week, starting in the 3rd week, one 2-page reflection paper per week will be written. For those seeking college credit extra writing will be required and possibly extra reading.

Required reading:
• Vern Poythress, Logic: A God-Centered Approach to the Foundation of Western Thought – read to page 221
• CS Lewis – The Weight of Glory – 208 pages
• GK Chesterton, Orthodoxy – 173 pages
The textbooks will teach basics of logic and then apply them to various scenarios. The reading requirement will average 30 pages a week, though week 2 and 3 will be heavier followed by less reading when the Lewis and Chesterton books are read. Students will need to be prepared to engage with the reading each week. The Poythress and Chesterton books are available free in PDF or can be purchase. The Lewis book must be purchased.
